BRC Global Food Safety Standards

Telarc is able to provide audits against the BRC (Brand Reputation through Compliance) Global Standards for Food Safety to help you become certified.

BRCGS Certification & Audit Process

Developed in the UK, the BRCGS are now recognised and are required by many retailers and branded manufacturers in the UK, EU and North America. Telarc is now licenced by BRCGS to conduct and certify clients against BRC Global Standards.

The BRCGS is comprehensive and focuses on safety, legality and quality.  It has detailed requirements based on the Codex Alimentarius HACCP principles.  BRCGS fit alongside existing ISO and HACCP management systems.

Telarc has the ability to combine audits, which provides you with the benefits of reduced time on site and costs to your company.

Telarc is accredited to provide BRC certification in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

BRC Audit Process

  • To start the BRCGS certification process you must purchase a copy of the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety directly from the BRCGS website.
  • Following this, the company is advised to conduct a preliminary self-assessment. There are some training courses available; also some guidance information relating to the specific industry is available directly from the BRC GS website.
  • Telarc is also providing BRC GS approved training (refer to our Training & Courses page).
  • If required one of our BRCGS approved auditors can undertake a gap audit to assess how far away your systems are from the BRC Global Standard.
  • Telarc will then conduct the certification audit. The time on site is dependent on the staff numbers, site size and complexity of the operations. The auditor will provide you with a list of provisional non-conformities which are to be closed within 28 days.
  • At this stage, a certification decision will be made by Telarc.
  • For additional detail on the audit process refer to the standard (e.g. Food Issue 8).
  • A certificate and written report will be provided to you within approximately 42 days of the audit.
  • A copy of the report will be uploaded to the BRCGS website.
  • You will also be provided access to the BRCGS portals in order to access your reports, non-conformities, BRCGS scheme requirements and you may also share your audit space with your customers.
  • Subsequent audits are held within six or twelve months depending on the performance and previous audit grade.
  • There is also an option for the auditor to conduct unannounced audits if you choose.
